Indoor & Outdoor Applications
Pure Defense Diatomaceous Earth is intended for application with a hand duster, power duster or other similar means of application in areas where crawling insects are found. Apply this product to cracks and crevices with the use of a bulbous duster or other suitable equipment. Apply lightly and uniformly.
In living areas, make applications in such a manner as to avoid deposits on exposed surfaces or introducing the material into the air. Treat a small area of the surface to be treated and look for staining or other adverse reactions before making a regular application. To apply insecticide directly into cracks and crevices, use a bulbous duster or other suitable equipment. Apply lightly and uniformly to infested areas. The amount of product to be applied will vary with the site, but should usually be in the range of 1–5 oz/100 sq. ft.
Indoor Use
Cockroaches, ants, earwigs, millipedes and centipedes, crickets, and silverfish: lightly coat a thin layer of pure defense diatomaceous earth in areas where these pests are found and may hide, including cracks and crevices, behind and beneath cabinets and garbage cans, and in and around sewer pipes, drains, and window frames. Dust insects directly if possible. Repeat treatment regularly.
Fleas
Thoroughly treat floor and bedding in and around pets' sleeping quarters. Treat surrounding cracks and crevices, baseboards, carpeting and wherever fleas are suspected.
Outdoor Use
Pure Defense Diatomaceous Earth is intended for application with a hand duster or power duster, or as a slurry for application in areas where insects are found. For cockroaches, earwigs, grasshoppers, ants, crickets, and other crawling insects, lightly coat a thin layer of pure defense diatomaceous earth in areas where these insects are found including patios, outdoor sills, and window and door frames. Dust around foundations, along ant trails, and around sewer pipes and drains. Repeat treatment as necessary.
Poultry Houses
To control bedbugs, mites, litter beetles (darkling beetles) and hide beetles, apply dust to litter at a rate of up to 4 lb per 1,000 square feet of surface area or as a slurry up to 20% solution (Note: 1.65 lb per gallon of water = 20% solution). Uniformly cover floors and walls, paying particular attention to cracks, crevices, and corners, and underneath feed and watering equipment and lines. Avoid contamination of feed and water. Applications can be made up to 75 lb per 1,000 sq. ft. for severe infestations and in moist areas. If litter is greater than 3" deep, apply up to an additional 25 lb per 1,000 sq. ft. per additional inch of litter. Applications are permitted mid-flock while birds are present. Litter should be retreated when replaced and before each new batch of poultry is introduced to the facility. Repeat treatments as necessary to maintain adequate control.
Slurry Mixing
When a slurry application is desired or being utilized, use the following procedure:
- Fill spray tank using 2/3 of the desired amount of water
- Add up to 26.5 oz (dry weight) of Pure Defense Diatomaceous Earth to each gallon of water in the total spray mixture
- After Pure Defense Diatomaceous Earth is thoroughly blended, add the remaining amount of water
- Maintain constant agitation while blending and spraying
- Spray application area enough to wet the area, but not to the point of runoff
- Slurry treatments are intended for outdoor applications and all applications to poultry. Slurry treatments are not intended to be made inside human living areas
